Jio tops download speeds in TRAI’s Meghalaya network assessment
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the results of Independent Drive Tests conducted across East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills districts and along the Ratha Cherre Khasia Punjee–Jowai stretch of NH-6 in Meghalaya.
The tests, carried out in March 2026, assessed mobile network quality of Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea across voice and data services. The findings showed that Airtel and Jio delivered the strongest network performance, with Jio recording the highest average download speeds of 97.89 Mbps in city areas and 122.77 Mbps on highways. Airtel followed with average download speeds of 72.24 Mbps in cities and 88.50 Mbps on highways.
BSNL and Vodafone Idea reported higher coverage gaps and dropped call rates compared with Airtel and Jio. During city drive tests, BSNL recorded 34 dropped calls and Vodafone Idea 30, while Jio reported just two and Airtel five.
The drive tests covered over 300 km across urban and highway routes, hotspots and public locations to evaluate real-time network performance. TRAI said the findings have been shared with telecom operators for necessary improvements.
