Centre rolls out ‘1930’ helpline to report cybercrimes

The Centre has rolled out a new Helpline number ‘1930’ to report cybercrimes and an alternate number ‘155260’ as well. After providing details of the financial transaction, a mechanism will be triggered to freeze the siphoned off money wherever it has landed and police action will follow.

The Union ministry of home affairs, with the help of department of telecommunications (DoT), has been allotted this new helpline, which will replace 155260 in a phased manner. “Online harassment or cyber financial fraud should be immediately reported on 1930 for swift action,” said police commissioner Rakesh Asthana.

The chances of recovering your siphoned off money is the highest in first few hours of dubious online transaction. If the victim lodges case immediately, there are high chances of tracking down the cyber criminals. Since precious time is lost in lodging complaints in police stations, the chances of lost money is also minimal. Newsroom Post
