XPhone, World’s First Blockchain Phone Launched At MWC 2019

First, we saw, the advent of foldable smartphones at the MWC 2019 then, we witnessed the launch of 5G enabled devices and now Blockchain-ready phone has made its debut. The Blockchain ready smartphones indicate that we are slowly and steadily moving towards technology that the whole world is talking about. At the MWC 2019, Pundi X (developer of blockchain-powered handsets) unveiled the new features of its smartphone dubbed as XPhone. The phone features an ‘X’ button which allows users to directly access Dapps (Decentralized applications) on the blockchain mode.

XPhone price has been set at $599 (roughly Rs. 43,000). For those unfamiliar with the term Blockchain, Blocks in the language of cryptocurrency means a record of transactions, when one transaction is completed i.e one block is completed a chain of blocks is created and thus making a Blockchain.

XPhone new features and specifications

XPhone comes with a Blockchain-based Operating software which allows users to make calls, send text messages or transfer data through decentralized blockchain network. The phone is touted to be “first mobile phone that can run completely on a decentralized ecosystem powering telephony, messaging, and data transmission.” XPhone boasts of a 5.65-inch display. It is powered by Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 660 coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. For optics, XPhone sports a 16-megapixel selfie camera and a 48-megapixel rear camera. Further, it has a fingerprint sensor mounted on the side of the phone. The XPhone packs a 3,500mAh battery.

Pitt Huang, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Pundi X in a press release said, “Blockchain today is at a similar stage of development as the Internet in the early ‘90s. Like the browser was to the Internet, a new kind of network and decentralized protocol like Function X will have a profound effect on the blockchain, putting it in the hands of millions via a smartphone and returning control of their data back to them.”

He further added, “When one recalls how it took decades for the internet to pervade every aspect of human existence, one realizes that today is a great day for blockchain, even as we are just entering the new era of 5G.” ―Times Now
