Xiaomi Sells 100 Million Smartphones In India

Xiaomi announced on Friday it has shipped over 100 million smartphones in India in the last five years. This milestone has been achieved between the third quarter of 2014 and July 2019, according to IDC’s 2019 reports.

According to the company, Xiaomi is one of the fastest brands to achieve a 100 million mark within five years of its existence. Redmi A series and Redmi Note series have been the most popular smartphones that significantly contributed to this feat.

The brand also unveiled a film to celebrate the occasion, featuring Xiaomi employees across corporate, logistics, warehouse, after sales.

Anuj Sharma, chief marketing officer, Xiaomi India, said, “We are delighted to achieve this milestone of selling 100 million smartphones in India (till date). On this occasion, we have released this new brand film showcasing the joy and happiness in the hearts of all those associated with the brand. The entire film was shot in the Xiaomi headquarters in India (Bangalore), including a few shots from one of the warehouses as well. The idea behind this brand film is to thank each individual who has been a part of this remarkable journey of Xiaomi in India, including Mi Fans, consumers, company employees and all external partners. We hope that we continue to receive all the love and support in our journey ahead, as we reinforce our vision of providing consumers with best quality products at honest pricing.”

Xiaomi’s India journey started in 2014 with the Mi 3. The phone sold 10,000 units on the first sale within seconds. Today, Xiaomi has seven smartphone manufacturing plants, which employ over 20,000 employees, of which over 95% include women.

Xiaomi India’s smartphone market share has grown constantly and is currently the #1 brand for eight consecutive quarters according to the IDC.―India Finance News
