Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 With Sliding Camera Could Launch on October 15

If the Mi Mix 3 comes to India we expect it to cost around Rs 40,000.

The longtime rumoured Mi Mix 3 finally gets a launch date. But, the date hasn’t been confirmed by Xiaomi yet. Two new teasers leaked on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo reveal that the Mi Mix 3 may go official on October 15. As noted, Xiaomi is yet to confirm the same. To recall, previous reports had suggested that Mi Mix 3 will be launching on September 15, but that didn’t happen. For now, we aren’t sure if the October 15 is actually the launch date of the Mi Mix 3, but what is confirmed for sure is that the phone will be launching this month itself.

Xiaomi President Lin Bin in August this year confirmed that the Mi Mix 3 is coming in October, but never revealed the launch date. He also posted an image of the phone which revealed that the Mi Mix 3 will get a major revamp in a lot of aspects. The image revealed that the Mi Mix 3 will come with a sliding camera on the front and looks somewhat similar to the Oppo Find X. The slider is expected to equip the selfie camera, earpiece and some sensors. Xiaomi is yet to reveal details on how the camera slider of the Mi Mix 3 will work.

The new teasers leaked on Weibo don’t reveal any new information about the Mi Mix 3. The teasers just show the Mi Mix 3 with full-screen display and tips that the phone could launch on Oct 15.

Ahead of the launch, a lot has been already talked about the Mi Mix 3. Going by the rumours it looks like the Mi Mix 3 will be a follow up of the Mi Mix 2S. The smartphone will come with a bezel-less design, two cameras on the rear panel and single on the front just as the 2S. As noted, the selfie camera of the phone will be embedded inside the slider. We expect the front camera of the phone to work just like the Oppo Find X. This means, on opening the camera app the slider will pop-up and capture the selfie, and after the app is closed the slider will go down.

As for the camera configuration, the Mi Mix 3 is expected to come with a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 12-megapixel secondary camera on the back. On the front, the Mi Mix 3 is said to sport the same camera setup as the Mi Mix 2S, which is a 5MP.

The Mi Mix 3 is expected to come with a much bigger screen compared to the Mi Mix 2 and the Mix 2S. Rumours say that the phone could sport a 6-inch display with 19:9 aspect ratio. Some rumours also suggest that the Mi Mix 3 will include an in-display fingerprint sensor, while some hints at a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. So, there’s still some confusion whether the Mi Mix 3 will sport a fingerprint sensor under the display or on the rear panel.

We expect the Mi Mix 3 to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. Rumours suggest that the phone will come in two variants. The base model with 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage, while the top-end model of the phone is said to include 8GB RAM paired with 256GB of internal storage. The Mi Mix 3 is also tipped to come with IP68 rating and hence is expected to be water and dust resistant. It is likely to run the latest Android Oreo-based MIUI 10.

The final pricing of the Mi Mix 3 is yet to be revealed by Xiaomi, but rumours Rumours suggest that the starting price of the Mi Mix 3 in China could be around 3799 Yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 40,300. This price is said to be for the 6GB RAM and 256GB storage variant of the phone. As of now, there’re no words if the Mi Mix 3 will come to India or not. Possibly it will. If the Mi Mix 3 comes to India we expect it to cost around Rs 40,000. To recall, the Mi Mix 2 was launched in the country at a price of Rs 35,999, though nowadays it’s selling for a reduced price of Rs 29,999. – India Today
