Xiaomi is launching the Mi 10 5G in India on 8th May

Xiaomi is officially bringing the Mi 10 5G to India and although this isn’t technically the company “first 5G smartphone in India”, it will be the first 5G smartphone that will be open to consumers for retail.

The announcement was made in a media conference today and Xiaomi’s all set to host a launch event online on 8th May. The Mi 10 5G was announced back in February and although its taken a while for Xiaomi to get the phone to India, it will be a flagship smartphone — the likes of which we don’t see very often from Xiaomi.

From what we know, the Mi 10 features a curved display with a camera cutout on the left-hand side. The phone also has curved glass back panels with the speaker grille situated at the top and bottom of the phone. A USB-C charging port is found at the bottom and both phones continue the Mi flagship tradition started with the Mi 6 of dropping the 3.5mm headphone port.

In term of hardware, the Mi 10 features a 6.67-inch curved, FHD+ AMOLED display with HDR 10+ support. Xiaomi decided to stick to the 90Hz refresh rate, as opposed to the 120Hz refresh rate on the Galaxy S20 series, as well as the upcoming OnePlus 8 lineup.

Xiaomi had confirmed the Snapdragon 865 silicon back at the chipset’s launch and that’s exactly what you get with the Mi 10 Pro.

The phone is likely to arrive in India shores in 8GB and 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM options coupled with UFS 3.0 storage. We think anything above 8GB might be overkill, but that’s not stopping tech companies from increasing the RAM capacity on their phones.

That said, the primary camera on the Mi 10 series is one of its main highlights. The Mi 10 Pro flaunts a quad-camera setup with a primary 108MP sensor leading the pack. Other sensors in the Mi 10 5G’s rear camera setup include a 13MP wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. Surprisingly, there’s no telephoto lens on the phone.

Just like Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series, the Mi 10 5G also supports 4K and 8K video recording. Additionally, there’s support for OIS and EIS.

On the battery end, the Mi 10 5G is powered by a 4,780mAh unit. It is equipped with 30W wired fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging. It also supports 10W reverse wireless charging to juice up other devices.
