WhatsApp launches new Security Center page

WhatsApp on Thursday announced it is launching a new global Security Center which will be a one-stop shop for users to learn more about how to protect themselves against spammers, scams and frauds and unwanted contact. In a bid to put a check on spammers and unwanted contacts, the Meta-owned company has created a new Security Center page to build awareness about the various safety measures and in-built product features that empower its users to take control of their safety as well as more information on the “behind-the-scenes” technology.

WhatsApp Security Center page will be available in English and 10 other Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Urdu and Gujarati).

The features highlighted in the WhatsApp Security Center are just some of the ways we help keep users safe and secure, according to Meta-owned WhatsApp. It informs users about the layers of privacy that the messaging platform provides and lists some top tips to give users more control over their WhatsApp account, including:

Two-step verification: To avoid account takeovers and to provide another layer of account security.

Scams: How to spot common scams and what you can do if you receive an unwanted message including our block and report tools.

Official WhatsApp: Information on how to avoid fake versions of WhatsApp that pose serious risks to your privacy and security.

Group controls: Reminders about checking your preferences about who can add you to groups.

Meanwhile, Meta-owned WhatsApp recently announced rolling out a much-needed feature that lets users edit messages within a 15-minute window. Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement in a Facebook post that WhatsApp users can now edit messages for up to 15 minutes after sending them. The edit message option has started rolling out to users around the world and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks, the company had mentioned.
