Revealing its big plans for India, Chinese handset maker Transsion Holding has said it is looking at ramping up its exports from India to markets like Africa and Middle East.
Speaking at the launch of its latest flagship, Tecno Phantom 9, here, Transsion India’s CEO Arijeet Talapatra, said, “We are investing big time in India, with plans to set up an industrial park and do R&D here. We want to make in India and export to Africa, we have started with small numbers but we will expand it.”
According to Transsion India chief operating officer, Marco Ma, the industrial park is more for creating a supply chain ecosystem and not only in the mobile phone, but also other categories.
Talapatra said, “India is the fastest growing smartphone market globally and a key market for us. We have been here for about three years, but India is already our fourth biggest market; and we are confident that it will move into the top three next year.”
Transsion, which operates three brands – Tecno, Infinix and itel – in India, is also confident of the country becoming one of its top three markets by next year.
The company is looking at 40-50 acres and is talking to different States, where mobile phone accessories will be made. Its yet-to-be-launched consumer durables brand may also be made here.
Transsion already has two manufacturing units in India with an annual capacity of 20 million feature phones and 10 million smartphones.
