Vodafone Idea successfully tests 5G in Pune to meet roll out norms

Vodafone Idea has conducted successful tests of 5G services across both the 26 GHz mmWave and 3.3 GHz mid-bands at Ghole Road, Pune. This testing was done in order to meet the minimum rollout obligations mandatedthe Department of Telecommunications. The testing was completed on August 16, 2023, in the Pune region of Maharashtra.
Earlier, Vi CEO Akshaya Moondra had mentioned during an earnings call that the company would not be able to meet the minimum rollout obligations in 15 out of the 17 circles it acquired spectrum in during the July 2022 5G spectrum auction. Moondra explained that in two circles, they have already filed for compliance, but in the remaining circles, there are liquidated damages that apply.
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel announced that it has completed MRO (mandatory rollout obligation) in all 22 circles for the 26 GHz band, while Reliance Jio has also completed MRO across all telecom circles.
The Department of Telecommunications had set out rollout obligations for the 26 GHz band and the mid-bands, stating that companies should commercially launch services in each of the three metros and at least one city in each of the 22 telecom circlesthe end of the first year or phase 1.
Adani Data Networks is the only company that has yet to meet these obligations. OPP Today
