Vodafone Idea reports best voice quality for second straight month

Vodafone Idea Ltd. provided users the best voice service quality for the second straight month in December.

Idea got the highest ratings on average voice quality in December 2020, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s ratings based on customers feedback on MyCall portal. Vodafone followed in the second position. While the two operators have merged, the ratings are provided separately.

Bharti Airtel Ltd. and government-owned BSNL Ltd. saw a decline in average voice quality over November, while Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. reported an improvement.

The regulator’s app gets feedback data on “call quality” and “call quality experience” on a scale of 1 to 5—with five being the highest.

Idea was ranked the highest in all categories of call quality: indoor, outdoor and travelling, while Vodafone Idea remained on top on indoor call quality for the second straight month.

Call ratings for Bharti Airtel improved in the travelling category but declined in indoor and outdoor categories over November. It also has the lowest indoor and outdoor rating among all operators in December.

Jio’s rating for indoor calls remained unchanged, but improved in outdoor and travelling categories in the last two months.

For Idea, around 97.59% of the users were satisfied with call quality, the highest among peers. User satisfaction level for Reliance Jio, India’s largest operator by gross subscribers, improved. Based on varied sample sizes for November and December, 77.8% of the users were satisfied in December, compared to 74.2% in November.

The satisfaction level in Bharti Airtel declined between November and December as the percentage of users who faced issues like poor voice quality and call drops rose. The operator had the highest percentage of users reporting poor call quality. BloombergQuint
