Vodafone announced as first partner for COP27 UN climate change conference

Vodafone is to be a principal partner for the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt, providing connectivity and showcasing how digital technologies can help address the climate crisis.

The conference will take place in November 2022 in Sharm-el-Sheikh.

As Principal Partner of Communications, Vodafone will help the Egyptian government not only provide connectivity for the global conference, but also demonstrate how digital technology can address climate change, improve energy efficiency, promote a circular economy and aid food security.

Vodafone plans to showcase how the Internet of Things and other digital technologies can help create a more energy efficient, cleaner and productive society, particularly in sectors like agriculture and transport.

Nick Read, Vodafone Group CEO, said: “The COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, is a critical opportunity to accelerate the urgent and sustained action required to address the climate emergency.

“Vodafone believes business success should not come at a cost to the environment, and our Partnership at COP27 will showcase the role our digital networks and services play in enabling society to address climate change and in delivering the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

Vodafone Group is aiming to reach ‘net zero’ carbon emissions across its full value chain by 2040, while helping business customers reduce their own carbon emissions by 350m tonnes by 2030.
