Vivo To Launch Its Second Z-Series Smartphone In India Soon

Just last month Vivo Z1 Pro marked the debut of a new smartphone series in India. The device was pitched for the ‘Generation Z’ and was priced aggressively enough to undercut the market captured by Xiaomi, Honor and others. However, it looks like the Z series is on priority for Vivo as it plans to launch a new one under the same line up in India soon.

Gadgets Now has learned that Vivo will be introducing a new Z-series smartphone in India as soon as next month (September). The handset will be the second one after the Z1 Pro. The exact date of launch is not yet known though. What we do know is that Vivo plans to sell this mysterious new Z-series smartphone exclusively through online channels only. Since the Z1 Pro was made available via Flipkart and company’s own Estore, we expect this to get the same treatment.

Another piece of information Gadgets Now has received is that the smartphone in question will fall in the ‘mid-range’ segment, which is as vague as it gets. For reference, the Z1 Pro came at Rs 14,990 for the 4GB + 64GB model, Rs 16,990 for the 6GB + 64GB variant and Rs 17,990 for the 6GB + 128GB variant.

So, does that mean you should stop buying the Z1 Pro and wait for this new smartphone? Probably not. Gadgets Now has learned that this upcoming handset won’t be a Z1 Pro successor. And that makes sense considering that the Z1 Pro just launch last month.

To recall, Vivo Z1 Pro runs FuntouchOS 9 based on Android 9 Pie, has a 6.5-inch FHD+ IPS display, 4GB/6GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor, 64GB/128GB storage, 16MP+8MP+2MP rear cameras, 32MP front camera and a 5000mAh battery. Will the ‘mid-range’ Z-series smartphone be more powerful than Z1 Pro? We’ll have to wait until September to know that.―Times of India
