Verizon Snaps Up Security Tools From Vidder

Verizon announced late last week that it was buying a set of security tools from partner Vidder to further enhance the telco’s Software Defined Perimeter (SDP) service.

For an undisclosed sum, Verizon bought Vidder’s PrecisionAccess solution and other software-defined perimeter assets. While Vidder is privately held, it has close ties to Verizon.

Early last year at NFV World Congress, Verizon announced the release of it’s Software Defined Perimeter (SDP) security service in collaboration with Vidder. In September of 2017, Verizon said it was adding SDP security to its Virtual Network Services (VNS) by using Vidder’s security software.

Enterprises are looking for ways to segment their networks from their infrastructures in order to demonstrate that they can keep users and applications safe and secure. As part of the SDP service, Vidder’s technology helps organizations protect their application infrastructures against cyber threats by blocking connectivity from unknown devices and making them invisible to everyone expect for those who have approved access.

Verizon’s SDP provides pre-authenticated, context-aware, secure access to enterprise applications, helping to reduce the security risks associated with the multiple endpoints across mobile, digital and virtual networks and applications.

As part of Verizon’s SDP service, the PrecisionAccess technology provides trusted and unified access control across internal networks, clouds, and external users by continually ensuring that only trusted devices used by entitled users and devices can ever see and access trusted applications.

“Vidder’s technology is best-in-class in the trusted access space,” said Victoria Lonker, Verizon’s vice president of network and security product management. “This acquisition enables us to further build out our software-defined suite of services, creating a unified networking and security solution which we believe is best-in-class when it comes to protecting organizations against cyberattacks.” – Fiercetelecom
