UKTIN reveals advisory board

We are delighted today to announce the membership of the UKTIN Advisory Board.

UKTIN provides a collaborative, accessible and inclusive forum for the UK telecoms innovation ecosystem, convening a range of bodies and organisations across industry, government stakeholders, and academia into one network. The UKTIN Advisory Board exists to provide independent advice, guidance and support to the network, and ultimately empower us to meet our long-term objectives.

The board provides an independent view of the telecoms sector, champions the opportunities in telecoms research, development and innovation for the UK, and helps UKTIN provide impartial input to government.

Dr Mike Short CBE joins us as Chair of the Board. Mike, after 30 years in telecommunications with Telefonica, joined the Department for International Trade (DIT) in December 2017 as the Department’s first Chief Scientific Adviser (now called Dept of Business and Trade in February 2023). He is now pursuing a portfolio career around innovation and research largely in telecommunications including as Chief Architect at the Satellite Applications Catapult and Distinguished Visitor at NPL.

Mike thinks UKTIN provides a powerful opportunity to bring UK telecoms research and innovation together, with a strong sector focus based on the depth of talent and strong advice. The success of the UK will depend heavily on the Digital Economy and the underlying Digital and technical skills. It will also require a focused approach on the Innovation that is needed by many players, across the Telecommunications sector and all its customers.  The global supply chain needs to accepted , used and collaborated with to ensure UK strengths and leadership are well understood. Impact should be measured and cost effective telecommunications services delivered . UKTIN has a key role in all of this. UK5G
