Trends that will define the telecom industry in 2022

The technology trends that are driving the telecom industry are many. But some of the key trends which will redefine the telecom industry in India in the near future are listed below:

5G technology
With the government auction of the fifth-generation (5G) spectrum scheduled in the next few quarters in India, the 5G mobile networks will have a major impact on telecommunications services in India. With the first generation focused primarily on voice, we are now entering the age of the Worldwide Wireless Web (WWWW), which will be on the mobile ecosystem, and consumers will get seamless mobile connectivity. 5G mobile communication brings with it a host of commercial opportunities and practical applications for various industries, including tele-medicine, industrial IoT, agriculture, and transportation (autonomous driving). This mobile technology will enable much further reach and enhanced connectivity overall.

Cloud platforms
We should expect more and more telecommunications providers to embrace the cloud as we enter 2022. Cloud computing has driven innovation in the telecom industry by providing platforms for more flexibility and scalability. Using cloud computing, telecom operators will be able to minimize costs and generate new revenue streams using technological solutions. Open RAN or O-RAN is a game-changing radio access network (RAN) evolution combining RAN functionality with cloud-native design, scale, and automation. With O-RAN, the operators can not only decouple vendors but also software from hardware, thus facilitating the migration to a cloud-native model.

Wi-Fi 6
The Wi-Fi organization (wireless fidelity) has already launched the standard known as 802.11 ax, with the commercial name of Wi-Fi 6. One of its main advantages is the greater capacity to serve devices, lower energy consumption, and higher speed for obtaining information, which means that a single access point will be capable of serving up to 400 devices at the same time.

Like 5G, Wi-Fi 6 technology also has practical applications in the field of entertainment, such as augmented reality or virtual reality. But it also has other uses in industry or sectors, such as medicine, telemedicine, teleworking, IoT, smart city etc.

Cross-platform mobile development
Mobile app developers, who want to launch their apps for Android and iOS devices, will start to take advantage of cross-platform mobile application-development tools. It is no longer a viable business model for an app to only be available on one platform and not on the other. In the past, businesses were hesitant to launch on both platforms simultaneously because of the high costs.

While it does not technically exist yet, companies like Facebook hope the metaverse will become a place where we go to meet, work, play, study, and shop.

This extended reality is predicted to be the next evolution of the internet, and will blur the lines between physical and digital life. Think in-game purchases, where computer gamers can buy virtual goods and services, using real money. Jobs in the metaverse might include personalized avatar creator or metaverse research scientist.

Using vastly powerful computer systems to mine for new crypto is also bad for the environment. But there are tech industry experts who believe that, with regulation, it will become a more sustainable legal tender of the future.
