TRAI releases report on Drive Tests conducted in six cities

TRAI, with the assistance of the Telecom Service Providers, conducted Drive Tests in six cities viz. Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Haldia, Habra & Ashok Nagar in the quarter ending on March 2021. The Drive tests were conducted to assess the network quality provided by cellular mobile telephone service providers for voice and data services. The details of drive tests conducted are given below:

The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were assessed for the networks of all telecom service providers operating in the region. KPIs for voice services are Coverage, Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate, Block Call Rate, Handover Success Rate, Rx Quality. KPIs for data services are Download & Upload Throughputs, Web Browsing Delay, Video Streaming Delay and Latency.

The key findings of Drive test are summarized below:

• Jaipur City: All the TSPs have met the KPIs for voice calls except for Rx Quality% parameter for BSNL in 3G and RJIO in 4G VoLTE service. The Stationary data testing was also done at three locations namely Airport, Railway Station & Jal mahal.

• Hyderabad City: All the TSPs have met the KPIs for voice service except for Rx Quality% in respect of BSNL in 3G network and Airtel, RJIO & VIL in 4G network. The stationary data testing was carried out at five static locations namely international Airport, main Bus station, main Railway station, University Campus, Multiplex.

• Bengaluru City: All the TSPs have met the KPIs for voice calls except for BSNL, Airtel, VI & RJIO for RX Quality% parameter. The Stationary as well as dynamic data testing was also done.

• Bhopal City: All the TSPs have met the KPIs for voice calls except for Airtel, VIL & RJIO for Rx Quality% parameter in 4G network. The Stationary data testing was also done at four locations viz. MP Nagar Zone-2, Habib Ganj Railway Station platform number 1 Side, Near GTB Complex New Market and Main Railway Station platform number 1 side.

• Haldia City: All the TSPs have met the KPIs for 2G network voice calls except BSNL for KPIs – DCR, BCR, HoSR, TCH congestion, SDCCH congestion & Rx Quality%; for 3G network except BSNL for RRC congestion, RAB congestion, DCR, BCR & Ec/No%, all TSPs met the Benchmarks. For 4G voice service, all TSPs met the KPIs except RJIO & VI for SINR%. The dynamic & Stationary data testing was also conducted during drive tests.

• Habra & Ashok Nagar: All the TSPs have met the KPIs for 2G network voice calls except BSNL for KPIs -CSSR, DCR, HoSR & Rx Qual%; for 3G network except BSNL for Ec/No% parameter, all TSPs have met the benchmarks. For 4G voice service, all TSPs met the KPIs except RJIO & VIL for SINR% parameter. The dynamic data testing was also conducted during drive tests.
