TRAI organised International Regulators Roundtable

TRAI on the occasion of its silver anniversary on May 18, 2022 organised an International Regulators’ Roundtable on “Collaborative Regulations using RegTech and Technology Platforms.”

The main aim of this International Regulators Roundtable was to cover the use of RegTech and Technology Platforms for the purpose of curbing spam and leveraging platform for effective management of countermeasures actions against fraudulent activities. The participants discussed creating an echo system through RegTech and Technology Platforms for improving digital connectivity inside buildings.

Digital Platforms, Tools and Processes developed and deployed for the purpose of curbing spam may also help in dealing more effectively with the fraudsters using telecom resources. If Lawful Enforcement Agencies, and other Regulators leverage the ecosystem developed for spam, they can gather more facts about the fraudsters almost on real-time basis and take action proactively.

The Roundtable had 3 sessions to discuss about use of innovations and new technologies to curb spams and fraudulent communications.

The regulator also organised a ministerial session that included Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal, Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and secretary Department of Telecommunications K Rajaraman.

Day-long deliberations also included matters such as a secure, sustainable, scalable and collaborative approach for the creation of telecom infrastructure for ubiquitous connectivity, smart cities, and next generation-backed services.

More than 200 industry executives attended the event that included representatives of incumbents such as Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and industry groups Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA).
