TRAI issues two amendments to TTO 66th and 67th amendments

The Authority had received references from consumers expressing concerns regarding the tariff offers of 28 days’ validity (or in multiples thereof) by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), rather than Tariff offerings having validity for 30 days or a month. The Authority being conscious of the need to address consumer concerns and perceptions in this regard issued two amendments to Telecommunication Tariff Order (TTO) viz. TTO 66th and TTO 67th amendments.

Following due consultation process involving seeking comments, counter comments and open house discussion with stakeholders, vide Telecom Tariff(66th and 6ih Amendment) Order, 2022, TRAI has inserted sub clauses (xi) and (xii) in clause 6 of TTO, 1999 which provides that:

  • Every Telecom Service Provider shall offer at least one Plan Voucher, one Special Tariff Voucher and one Combo Voucher having a validity of thirty days.
  • Every Telecom Service Provider shall offer at least one Plan Voucher, one Special Tariff Voucher and one Combo Voucher which shall be renewable on the same date of every month and if the date of such renewal is not available in a month, the date of renewal shall be the last date of that month.”

All telecom service providers have, implemented the amendments to TTO and launched the aforesaid vouchers in consonance with above amendments. Accordingly, 30 days vouchers and vouchers renewable on same date of every month are, inter-alia, available on their website and are open for subscription.
