Tower Semiconductors seeks approval for 65nm, 40nm chip production in India

Israel’s chipmaking major, Tower Semiconductors, has reportedly resubmitted proposals for 65nm and 40nm chips to establish a semiconductor fabrication unit in India, as per a media report on Monday.

The company is also facing legal action from its former joint partner, Next Orbit Ventures, which is contemplating suing Tower Semiconductors for proceeding to submit a fresh proposal with a new partner.

Next Orbit Ventures will challenge the new proposal, claiming a breach of the terms of the contract it had with Tower Semiconductors, the report added.

BC Jindal Group, a major manufacturer of packaging and labelling products, is likely to be the new partner in Tower Semiconductors’ proposal. However, the expected deal has not been officially disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Israeli company’s first attempt at entering the Indian market made no headway despite Tower firming up a joint venture with ISMC (International Semiconductor Consortium) Analog Fab Private to set up a chip fabrication unit with a proposed investment of USD 3 billion.
