Theft of remote radio units hit Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone in West Bengal

Theft of remote radio units has impacted the business of telecom service providers like Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone India in Bengal, trade body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said, reports Sarthak Ganguly.

According to COAI, which has lodged complaints with police stations across the state, telecom companiess have been facing financial loss since they were being forced to reinstall the equipment to provide seamless 4G and 5G connectivity.

Telecom equipment theft, including 17,000 stolen RRUs from cellular towers, has caused Rs 800 crore losses for telecom companies in India, impacting service quality and hindering the rollout of 5G networks.

Telecom equipment thefts, COAI, and Radio Remote Units have caused poor mobile network service in India. COAI, representing telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea Limited, urged govt intervention to address the issue of stolen RRUs affecting transmission and reception of mobile signals.
