Tencent Inks Deal With China Telecom To Build Data Center In Guangdong

Tech giants Tencent Holdings has just signed a deal to build and maintain data centers for the Guangdong arm of China Telecom.

Tencent Holdings has identified several key locations in China for the building of data centers to prepare for the upcoming 5G ecosystem which will also increase the amount of computing power required in telecommunications.

China Telecom and Tencent will be using operations management system to run and maintain the proposed data center to solve some of the problems currently faced by data centers such as high energy consumption and low efficiency.

The Tencent Smart Maintenance Platform which is created from the vast management experience the company has in the management of data centers helps customers to better understand the operating condition of their data center and optimize operations to reduce costs.

Earlier in November, Tencent completed a similar deal with the Chongqing arm of China Telecom where the company had promised to improve energy efficiency at its data center by 30%.

The telecom company, currently, has about 1,100 acceleration nodes to deliver content across China. The company claims to have the largest number of servers in its data centers and plans to build more servers with closer proximity to users to speed up internet connections. – China Knowledge
