Telstra To Release IoT Products For Residential, Corporate Users To Locate Objects, Assets

Telstra said it will launch later in 2018 new IoT-based location products that will allow businesses and enterprise customers locate the assets that matter most to them. The company will offer two products: Telstra Locator for consumer and small business customers and Track and Monitor for enterprise customers.

Telstra Locator will include a lightweight and long-lasting Bluetooth tag for keys and purses and a rechargeable Wi-Fi tag ideal for pets, bikes and bags. Early in 2018, Telstra will introduce a premium LTE tag to the Telstra Locator service, designed for high-value assets such as vehicles and machinery.

Each Telstra Locator Tag connects to one or a combination of Telstra’s networks, this includes a new Bluetooth locator community, parts of the Telstra Air Wi-Fi Network, and for LTE tags, Cat M1 IoT technology on Telstra’s Mobile Network, which has an enabled coverage footprint of around 3 million square kilometres for compatible devices. Telstra Locator will launch as a subscription-based service available to Telstra consumer and small business post-paid mobile customers.

Telstra said it’s also working with a number of large organisations to trial its new Track and Monitor service for enterprise customers, which will be available from October. Enterprise customers will be able to enable low-cost, large-volume asset tracking, whether across multiple warehouses or retail sites – or while in transit. – Telecom Paper
