Telia’s mobile network remains the best in Sweden, according to umlaut

For the fourth* year in a row, Telia’s mobile network has been named the winner in the benchmark conducted by independent benchmarking organization umlaut in Sweden, taking first place in all three categories: voice, data and crowdsourced quality.

umlaut’s independent, annual test of the four largest operators’ mobile networks is the market’s most detailed and qualitative measurement of voice and data. During the tests, cars with measuring instruments drive approximately 10,000 kilometers around Sweden, covering metropolitan areas, smaller towns and road networks. The data gathered by these vehicles is combined with measurements crowdsourced from mobile applications. This approach provides a very good overview of the mobile networks in Sweden.

The results of umlaut’s extensive tests show that Telia’s mobile network delivers the best network quality and customer experience when using mobile services in Sweden. Telia received a total of 968 points out of a possible 1,000, which means that Telia’s mobile network is among the highest-ranked mobile networks in the world, according to umlaut.

“We are, of course, extremely proud and happy that our hard work and large investments have produced a positive result,” says Staffan Åkesson, Chief Technology Officer, Telia Sweden. “Our biggest ever network modernization is still ongoing. In parallel, we are also building a 5G network around the country, which already reaches over 80% of Sweden’s population. umlaut’s reliable measurement method shows that our work has provided an even better user experience for our customers. A secure and robust mobile connection is crucial for most people today, both for private individuals and companies, and it’s very nice to get such clear proof that we deliver it.”

In the voice category, in which call quality, call time and successful connections are examples of what is evaluated, Telia received 263 points out of a possible 270. In the data category, in which tests include the uploading and downloading of files, as well as surfing and streaming on websites and YouTube, among other things, Telia received 468 points out of a possible 480. In the crowdsourcing category, tests were carried out over a period of 24 weeks using mobile apps and Telia received 237 points out of a possible 250.
