Telecom Companies Unlikely To Get Govt Relief On Spectrum Payments

The government is not in favor of giving any relief to debt-laden telecom companies in statutory payments for spectrum, reported.

As per the report, the government is of the view that the telecom firms should ‘fight it out in the market’ rather than take benefit of any relief from the government.

“The government cannot be stepping in on such issues… It is something that needs to be left to market forces,” a senior government official was quoted as saying in the report.

The development comes after Vodafone-Idea Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla petitioned the government for relief in spectrum payments following the aggressive entry of Reliance Jio in the telecom sector.―CNBC-TV18
