Telcos Threaten Telecom Blackout On Abuja, Nine Other States

The telecommunications companies in Nigeria, yesterday warned that over nine states of the federation may experience telecom blackout if the Kogi State government continued to keep some telecom facilities in the state under lock and key

The telcos, who spoke through the Association of Licensed Telecom operators in Nigeria, ALTON, accused the Kogi State government of sealing key facilities of some of their members in the state. Delta flood victims beg FG, state govt for shore protection It said such action would lead to telecom blackout, not only to the state but, to about nine others, including Nassarawa, Benue, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara, Niger States, sharing borders with it. Black out continues in Edo; TCN, BEDC differ on cause Chairman of the Association, Engr Gbenga Adebayo said:  “The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, ALTON, wishes to express concern about the shutting down of telecommunications facilities in Kogi State as a result of disputes arising from unusual taxes and levies demanded by the Kogi State Government through its Ministry of Environment and physical planning, Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, Kogi State Environmental Protection Board, championed by the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, KIRS. – vanguardngr
