Telcos, infra providers taking all measures to power sites, exchanges: COAI

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) today said that the power outage in parts of Chandigarh has impacted telecom towers and disrupted mobile network connectivity in certain areas, and telcos are talking all measures to power their sites and exchanges by using alternate sources.

Multiple areas in the city faced power outage on Tuesday after employees of the electricity department launched a three-day strike protesting privatisation.

“Owing to the strike by the Union of Employees in Electricity Department of Chandigarh, there have been instances of power outages in parts of the city. This has impacted telecom towers, which is leading to disruption in mobile network connectivity in impacted areas. Telecom operators & Infrastructure providers are taking all measures to power their sites, exchanges etc. by using alternate sources batteries, DGs, solar panels etc. in the absence to EB supply in some areas,” said Lt Gen. Dr. SP Kochhar, DG, COAI.
