TCS expected to be awarded BSNL order for 100,000 sites soon
In line with the Oct 29, 2021 relaxed policy by the Govt, (part of the new ‘General Instructions on Procurement and Project Management,) when it scrapped the “years-long practice” followed by public authorities to reject a single bid during open tenders, TCS is expected to be awarded the BSNL tender for 100,000 sites shortly.
BSNL has extended the date of opening for the tender for rolling out 4G services to November 18, it was Nov 16 earlier. This is for deploying 100,000 4G sites, and maintaining the network for 10 years. The tender had been revised from the original bid of 6,400 radio sites to 100,000 sites on 2100 MHz and 900 MHz frequency bands.
BSNL had last week received the government’s approval for a Rs 26,821 crore order to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for 4G equipment.
Recap. Considering national security, the government in the last few years has been pushing for self-reliance in the telecommunications sector. Apart from TCS, the government had also received bids from HFCL (partners Pertsol and Mavenir), L&T (partners Pertsol and Mavenir), and Tech Mahindra (partners Pertsol and Sterlite). These companies had failed to submit proof of concept (PoC).
