Tatas aspire to lead India in semiconductors and precision manufacturing

The Tata group seems to be steadily moving toward being an integral and trusted part of the global electronics industry.
It manufactures telecom equipment through Tejas, semiconductor design through Saankhya, and non-electronic components for iPhones in Krishnagiri.
IPhones. It plans to strengthen its presence in iPhones, by acquiring the assembly unit of Wistron’s India. The group is in serious dialogue with Wistron, with Tata executives assuming key positions. India is expected to assemble up to 50 per cent of Apple’s iPhones by 2027, making it on par with the scale of production in mainland China.
Semiconductors. Recently, Randhir Thakur had joined Tata Electronics as CEO. Thakur is an Intel veteran and was the head of Intel Foundry Services. The Tatas are reportedly looking to set up a manufacturing facility at Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. At one time, it was reported that PSMC (Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp), would assist Tatas in carrying their semiconductor fab dreams forward.
