With 5G emerging as the new game changer impacting the entire spectrum of the society, discussions now focus on technologies that can transform lives with the capabilities delivered by 5G. Devices powered by 5G are ranked far superior than their predecessors in terms of speed, reliability, and energy efficiency. At the heart of these devices are intelligent chipsets featuring multiple cores and embedded with advanced wireless connectivity features, among others.

Today some of the key technologies that are driving smart devices and enabling a digital ecosystem include AI, IoT, ML, Cloud, RPA, AR and VR, and 5G, among others. This digital acceleration and transformation across industries are also creating new avenues and opportunities for growth and development. 5G continues to unlock new technological possibilities globally, enabling new applications, and utilities.

On the company’s significant innovations
MediaTek is the world’s fourth-largest fabless semiconductor company, powering nearly 2 billion connected devices a year. Our latest 5G chipsets are designed to meet the performance demands of the most bandwidth intensive applications like HD video streaming, gaming, IoT and smart homes, automotive applications, and more.

We have been a frontrunner in the 5G domain and were the first chipset company globally to launch an integrated 5G SoC. Reiterating the commitment toward democratizing technology and making 5G experiences accessible to everyone, MediaTek has been augmenting 5G technology and delivering newer and more advanced chips under the MediaTek Dimensity 5G SoC family.

Incidentally, MediaTek’s first 5G chip, Dimensity 1000 SoC, has the world’s most advanced 5G SoC architecture. The MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset now powers several 5G smartphones in India, delivering power-packed gaming, video playback, and enhanced connectivity experience with longer battery life. This all-in-one 7nm chip features an integrated 5G modem and MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave power-saving technology that is capable of delivering 2.34Gbps peak performance and a 30 percent reduction in power consumption. Oppo Reno5 Pro 5G is the first smartphone in India powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset followed by Realme X7 Pro that was launched recently.

MediaTek Dimensity 800U, where U stands for Ultra Connected, is another chipset included in the MediaTek Dimensity 5G SoC family. The mid-range chipset comes equipped with dual 5G SIM capabilities with 5G-CA (2CC 5G Carrier Aggregation), allowing higher average speeds and a seamless handover between two 5G connection areas with over 30 percent greater throughput layer coverage than without CA. Notably, the ISP in the chipset includes a bunch of AI enhancements like AI autofocus, auto exposure, noise reduction, and dedicated facial detection hardware, and more. MediaTek 800U chipset powers devices like Realme X7 in India.

MediaTek Dimensity 1200, the recently launched flagship chip, enables a new wave of exceptional, high-end 5G smartphones with best-in-class, 200MP camera support, advanced AI capabilities, graphics, multimedia, connectivity enhancements, and more. Dimensity 1200 has already received TÜV Rheinland certification for its 5G performance covering 72 real-world scenarios. This certification is a testimony of the SoCs delivery on reliable, high-performance 5G connectivity and experiences across a wide variety of scenarios.

Another major innovation from MediaTek is the M80 5G modem designed for a range of devices including smartphones, PCs, Mi-Fi hotspots, broadband customer premise equipment (CPE), industrial IoT applications, and more. The modem integrates support for mmWave and sub-6 GHz 5G technologies and offers a peak rate of 7.67 Gbps in the downlink and 3.76 Gbps in the uplink.

Considering the rapid evolution of gaming devices, MediaTek has also invested in chipsets exclusively designed for the gaming market. A significant innovation, MediaTek HyperEngine gaming technology, packs a host of advanced features to speed up game load times, create reliable and low-latency connections by managing multiple networks, and intelligently manage resources to improve efficiency and increase battery life enabling incredible gaming experiences.

On plans for 2021 and beyond
MediaTek Technologies enable a new era of super-fast connectivity across myriads of devices including smartphones, computers, modems, smart TVs, voice-assisted devices, and other smart devices for home and office use. MediaTek is currently working on technology upgrades on 5G modem, WiFi-6, Edge AI, and 8K capability. Our collaboration with leading device makers like Samsung, realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, and VVDN is expected to bring out new products in India in the coming months.
