Sony To Reportedly Launch A Smartphone With Six Rear Camera Sensors

HMD Global’s flagship smartphone Nokia 9 PureView currently holds the crown when it comes to the most number of rear camera sensors on the smartphone. Well, if the reports are to be believed, then Sony could soon take the crown.

As per the reports, Sony is currently developing a new Xperia smartphone which will comes with a whopping six rear camera sensors. However, it’s not clear at this moment how these sensors will be arranged.

The report also has a render of the back camera sensor but it’s simply a mock-up. As for the front-facing camera, the smartphone is also expected to come with two front-facing camera sensors for taking selfies and video calling. It could also come with an advanced facial recognition tech.

While the exact details about the Sony’ssix rear camera setup remains a mystery at the moment, it is believed that the company will include a telephoto camera accompanied by a separate super-wide-angle alternative.

Given the recent popularity of Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors, one of the sensors could be a candidate for the setup, while the remaining two could potentially be monochrome sensors for improved detail in low-light scenes.

Sony Xperia 1 is the company’s most recent smartphone, which comes with an impressive 4K HDR 6.5-inch CinemaWide OLED display. The display that is powered Bravia TV and Master Monitor technologies carry support for 4K resolution of 3840 x 1644 pixels and is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.

The triple camera setup present on the back panel of the phone has a 5-axis OIS Dual Pixel PDAF enabled 12-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor with 5-axis OIS, Dual Pixel PDAF and 2x optical zoom along with a 12-megapixel superwide lens. The handset also comes equipped with a selfie camera of 8-megapixel.

The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform fuels the phone with 6GB of RAM and 3,300mAh battery. The handset includes support for 18W fast charging through USB-C. It comes with a microSD card slot and a native storage of 128 GB. The smartphone is running the Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box.―Gizmochina
