Samsung’s Noida Plant Staff To Get Back To Work

Normalcy returned to Samsung’s new manufacturing plant in Noida over the weekend after the South Korean electronics firm resolved most issues with protesting factory workers and assured them that the rest would be resolved within the next one month.

Around 1500 workers had assembled on Saturday at the company’s plant in Noida phase-II – which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in in July 2018, and is touted as the company’s largest in the world raising demands including salary hikes, change in lunch and shift timings, and holidays.

A person familiar with the matter said that Samsung management had accepted nine demands and given an assurance other issues such as salary hike and medical facilities would be resolved in a month’s time. “All employees will resume work. Most issues have been resolved and employees are no longer at loggerheads with the management,” said the person, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Shwetabh Pandey, circle officer, Noida third, “There are three points remaining for which Samsung has formed a committee and will come up with a resolution in a month’s time.” He said that although protesters had assembled within the premises of the private company, there was no threat to law and order. Samsung had changed shift timings this month, and workers were demanding a rollback, he said. The manufacturing unit cost Rs 4915 crore and has been hailed as a major boost to the government’s Make in India initiative.―World Breaking News
