Samsung Will Announce Its Next Flagship Exynos Chipset on November 14

Past rumours say the next-gen Exynos chipset will have a dual-core Neural Processing Unit.

Samsung has been all over the news this week right from unveiling its first fully foldable smartphone to reports that the company may opt for LCD display for its low-cost Galaxy A phones in the future. Next week is also going to be big for Samsung as the South Korean giant is ready to unveil its next-gen Exynos chipset on November 14. Samsung has confirmed this via a tweet from its Exynos account along with the tagline “Intelligence from within.”

It is pretty much certain that we are looking at a new flagship Exynos chipset that will power next year’s Galaxy flagship phones like the Galaxy S10, and maybe even the foldable phone. As this follows last year’s Exynos 9810, we expect Samsung will call its new processor the Exynos 9820. Samsung’s flagship SoC will most likely be based on a 7nm process much like Apple’s A12 Bionic and Huawei’s Kirin 980.

The EUV lithography technology that Samsung will be employing for its 7nm chipset will deliver up to 50 per cent lower power consumption and 20 per cent bump in performance compared to its predecessor. This would be extremely useful for Samsung’s power-hungry OLED Infinity Displays. Moreover, we assume the Infinity Flex Display on the foldable phone will be major battery drainer and the new Exynos chipset should help control that.

Samsung is also teasing advanced AI features with the upcoming Exynos 9820 chipset. Past rumours say the SoC will have a dual-core Neural Processing Unit to help next year’s flagship phones like the Galaxy S10 to perform complex AI and machine learning functions. Additionally, the next-gen Exynos chipset will also support a 5G modem. Samsung has been working on a Exynos 5100 modem that will make it to a special 5G variant of the Galaxy S10. – India Today
