Safaricom Appoints New CEO From Outside Telecom Sector

Kenyan operator Safaricom has appointed Peter Ndegwa its new CEO from 01 April 2020. Ndegwa joins Safaricom from Diageo where he is the MD of Diageo Continental Europe, after spending over 25 years in various roles within the financial services and consumer goods sectors in Africa and Europe.

Ndegwa holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

The appointment follows the death of Safaricom’s long-time CEO Bob Collymore on 1 July. Michael Joseph, the previous Safaricom and chairman of Kenya Airways, has served as interim CEO since then.―Telecompaper
