Russian govt to cut funds for investments in 5G

The Russian Ministry of Communications has submitted to the government a proposal for the distribution of investments into telecom, from this year’s federal budget, reports Tass. The proposal includes an eventual reduction of funds for the development of 5G. These funds would be allocated to digital TV broadcasting in sparsely populated locations. The changes could affect a programme on the release of bands for 5G services in cities of over 1 million residents, as well as the deployment of public Wi-Fi networks in small settlements.

The total amount to be redistributed amounts to RUB 8.835 billion.
