Russia Simplifies Rules For Construction Of Telecom Infrastructure

The Russian government has issued a decision simplifying construction rules for telecom infrastructure, reports Comnews.ru. Operators will no longer need construction permits for the deployment of telecom towers under 50 metres.

Operators believe the change will seriously facilite the development of telecom infrastructure. The change will reduce the construction term of a telecom tower, currently at about 13 months, by 4-6 months. Construction will also be cheaper, by an average of RUB 400,000.

Konstantin Ankilov, CEO of TMT Consulting, agrees that the changes are positive but doubts whether the modifications will lead to significant reduction in construction costs. He said the main costs are the price of the tower, the deployment of lines and mounting work. ―Telecompaper
