Retired BSNL employee robbed of Rs 5 lakh in Bhagalpur

Close on the heels of loot of Rs13 lakh by armed criminals at Naugachhia in Bhagalpur district, three armed criminals looted Rs5 lakh from a retired employee of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Bhagalpur city on Wednesday.

The victim, Chandradev Narayan Singh, had withdrawn Rs2 lakh from his own bank account and Rs3 lakh from the account of his wife, also a retired BSNL employee, at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch on Radha Rani Sinha Road under Adampur/Jogsar police station area.

Police sources said as soon as the victim came out of the bank, three armed criminals snatched the bag in which he had kept the cash and fled away. The victim, in a statement to the police, said the criminals had covered their faces with towels and fled towards Adampur. It may be worth mentioning here that the victim’s son is an IPS officer posted in Uttarakhand whereas his daughter-in-law is an IAS officer in Uttarakhand.

Bhagalpur SSP Babu Ram, when contacted, said three suspects were under the police scanner and police were looking into the CCTV footage of the bank and the locality.

Earlier, armed criminals had looted Rs13,00,200 from the cashier of HDFC Bank on the Rangra overbridge between Naugachhia and Kursela under Rangra police station area on Tuesday. The cashier, Resham Chowdhary, was carrying the cash from the HDFC Bank’s Naugachhia branch to deposit it in the Kursela branch. Four criminals, riding on two motorcycles, intercepted the cashier and looted the cash at gunpoint.

Naugachhia SDPO Dilip Kumar, when contacted in connection with Tuesday’s loot, said investigation was underway and the criminals would be arrested soon. The Times of Truth
