Qualcomm Technologies Innovations At CES 2019

Leading chipset company Qualcomm Technologies demonstrated a series of technologies targeting the automotive sector at CES 2019.

US-based Qualcomm has partnered with Audi, Ducati and Ford Motor Company to help accelerate commercial deployment for C-V2X direct communication technology for roadside safety, traffic efficiency and automated driving.

The demo will use the Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset to show how C-V2X can be used between vehicles to negotiate the right of way in entering a four-way, non-signalized intersection where intention sharing and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions make the use of a wireless sensor such as C-V2X ideal.

Qualcomm has also partnered with the City of Las Vegas, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) and Commsignia to implement the C-V2X vehicle communication technology in Las Vegas.

The trial will utilize Commsignia’s C-V2X RSUs and OBUs, the ITS-RS4-C and ITS-OB4-C respectively – powered by the Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset.

Vehicles equipped with C-V2X capabilities will use aftermarket on-board units (OBU) to demonstrate on Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) use cases, including signal phase and timing (SPaT) and traffic messaging to vehicles.

C-V2X is designed to be compatible with 5G and complement other Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensors, such as cameras, radar and Light Detection and Radar (LIDAR). It offers low latency communications for V2I, Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) without the involvement of a cellular network.

Qualcomm, in partnership with Amazon, is showcasing artificial-intelligence (AI) intuitive in-vehicle experiences. The technology is leveraging the Qualcomm Smart Audio Platform.

Qualcomm is utilizing the natural language processing and speech recognition capabilities offered by Amazon Alexa for showcasing how the capabilities of intuitive voice-based experiences, such as in-car virtual assistance and natural interactions between the vehicle and driver, can transform in-vehicle experiences.

Qualcomm also introduced its 3rd Generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms for the entry-level, mid-tier and supercomputing platforms.

The new platforms — building on Qualcomm Snapdragon820a chipset  allow automakers to deliver customizable options for their consumers.―Telecom Lead
