Pune: Connectivity problems hit those working from home

Working from home has been far from ideal for many people in several part of the city because of poor internet connectivity.

Sashikant Chauhan, who lives in a housing society in Kondhwa, was on a video call with a client when his internet connection went down on Friday evening. “It was so frustrating. There was no internet for at least six hours. I connect my laptop to my mobile hotspot and tried every possible spot in my house and society, but to no avail. I couldn’t even make calls, as Vodafone Idea had ‘no service’. My day’s work was ruined and my bosses were not happy,” Chauhan said.

IT employee Rahul Dawe, who lives in the same area, said he too was affected for a long time. “My wife and I have the same network and couldn’t contact anyone. I went out and got network and called up the customer care, who, after a long wait, blamed network congestion as many were working from home and logged in,” he said.

A representative of Vodafone Idea said a damaged optic fibre cable was to blame for the problem in Kondhwa and NIBM Road. “We could not restore it due to a lack of permission. It took longer than usual, but connectivity was restored late at night except for one location near NIBM Chowk, as the housing society did not allow our engineer inside,” the representative said.

People living in other parts of the city said connectivity was a problem for them as well. “It is happening very frequently and with almost all networks. I deal with clients abroad and they don’t take to such interruptions kindly,” Koregaon Park resident Sandeep Dixit said.
