Poco India GM To Realme CMO: Presenting Facts Is Not Cheating

The Twitter war between Xiaomi’s spin-off brand Poco and Realme continues. In the latest round, Realme’s chief marketing officer Francis Wang ‘accused’ Poco of cheating. “Cheating is not right, in case customers understand the difference between fast charging standards,” said Wang in a tweet.

Responding to this, Poco India’s general manager C Manmohan wrote, “Since when has presenting facts become cheating? Not like we used Snapdragon 660 lite (lower clocked) & hid the fact. Nor did we launch a 16MP camera & called it 64MP. Wake up to the #POCOX2, the #SmoothAF X2! The best X2!”

He then went on to tell Wang that he will be happy to discuss more on this in a call. “If u want to discuss more, happy to get on a call,” added Manmohan in his tweet. Manmohan’s tweet seems to be targeted at Realme’s mid-range smartphone Realme X2 launched in December 2019.

Incidentally, Poco India’s first smartphone as an independent brand too has a similar name, Poco X2. Little doubt then that at the launch event of Poco X2, the company compared the smartphone to Realme X2 and claimed how Poco X2 is better than Realme X2 on almost all fronts.

For those unaware Poco X2 launched at starting price of Rs 15,999 for 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage option. Realme X2 is priced Rs 3,000 more for the same variant. Both the smartphones run on the same Qualcomm processor, Snapdragon 730G.

A key difference between the smartphones is in display. Realme X2 boasts of 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, while Poco X2 comes with slightly bigger display of 6.67-inch with 120Hz refresh rate display. Poco X2 is the cheapest smartphone in this price range to come with 120Hz refresh rate.

In another Twitter spat last week, Manmohan quoting Realme CEO Madhav Sheth’s tweet wrote, “Hilarious! A real #CopyCat brand that copied almost everything is giving lecture. Instead of advice, maybe try to think of some original ideas to stop declining sales. Why should anyone be worried about a brand that declined 50% last quarter? ?? ?? “X” factor ??????? boss!! [SIC] (You have lost the “X” factor, boss).”

He was responding to Sheth’s tweet where he said that a real innovative brand and market leader shouldn’t behave like that. “A real innovative brand and market leader won’t behave like that. Basic dignity and ethics should be maintained no matter how insecure you are of your competitor’s growth. We will focus on making #realme the best in 2020. Rest is their choice, we don’t bother,” goes Sheth’s tweet.―Times of India
