Orange Inks $25 Million SD-WAN Deal With Global Engineering Firm Aurecon

Orange Business Services scored a five-year, $25 million deal with engineering company Aurecon to overhaul Aurecon’s existing infrastructure with its Flexible SD-WAN.

Under the deal, Orange will manage networking and security services across the engineering firm’s 60 sites spread over 20 countries. The service provider claims that once deployed, the services will increase Aurecon’s network capacity by four times as well as reduce its network spending.

Aurecon first tapped Orange back in 2014. At that time, the firm partnered with Orange to redesign, consolidate, and manage its network infrastructure with a high-speed WAN to connect its sites. These sites are located across Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.

The service provider deployed its MPLS backbone with internet connectivity, cloud-based secure gateways, and application performance optimization. Orange also provided its fully-managed and integrated network and service management services to enable prioritization and visibility.

The new five-year deal will leverage Orange’s Flexible SD-WAN, which it integrates with its vendor-managed internet and security components depending on the deployment. Orange SD-WAN is offered through both Cisco-Viptela technology and Riverbed’s SteelConnect technology.

In this case, Aurecon will deploy Orange’s cloud-based security services alongside the SD-WAN to secure its cloud-based applications.

The managed SD-WAN service will reduce the complexity of Aurecon’s infrastructure, strengthen its application performance, and improve its agility, according to Orange. Aurecon says that the increased capacity will be critical for its cloud-based computer-aided design software, work-sharing, and collaboration efforts.

Aurecon is headquartered in both Australia and South Africa and provides engineering, management, design, planning, consulting, and project management for sites across 20 countries. It employs more than 7,000 individuals and has annual revenue of about $7.08 million.

Last year, Orange signed a similar contract with engineering company Siemens AG to the tune of $294 million. The provider claims that this will be the largest deployment of SD-WAN in the world once completed. Currently, it is halfway through deploying its SD-WAN in all 1,500 of Siemens’ sites.―SDX Central
