Orange Business Services Launches LPWAN Connectivity Offering In Hong Kong

France-based business communications provider Orange Business Services has launched its IoT Connect Anywhere, a low-power wide area network (LPWAN) connectivity solution, in markets including Hong Kong, Asian press reported.

This recently launched offering uses the LoRa open standard LPWAN technology for IoT devices. IoT Connect Anywhere provides on-premise connectivity suitable for a range of applications, including energy and fluid management, on-site tracking, geo-fencing, waste control, environmental metering, lighting and parking monitoring in smart cities, the French company said.

IoT Connect Anywhere also offers secure transport between the gateway and the network and data delivery over HTTPS, so that all communications between the browser and the website are encrypted, according to Orange.

“With the allocation of HK$500 million ($64 million) to promote further technology adoption by departments and the establishment of the Smart Government Innovation Lab in the Policy Address 2018, it is evident that transforming Hong Kong into a smart city remains a top priority of the Hong Kong government,” said Edmund Yick, Orange Business Services’ general manager for Hong Kong and Taiwan.

“To ensure a successful and integrated transformation, the adoption of IoT across public and private sectors is vital. With more scalable and affordable IoT solutions now available, it is high time that Hong Kong enterprises utilize these solutions to build resilience, keep up with the pace of the advancements and reap the fruits of a world class smart city, he added.

Orange Business Services had announced the launch of this new IoT offering last month.

Through IoT Connect Anywhere, enterprise customers will have access to scalable end-to-end connectivity between devices and a data management platform, Orange Business Services said

The solution also relies on the Orange Business Services’ Datavenue IoT and analytics platform, which is designed to collect, analyze and turn raw data into actionable insights.

Datavenue, which was launched in October 2016, is a modular IoT and analytics solution; Orange said that it offers a full range of certified and tested connected objects, such as sensors, cameras or modules to connect existing assets. Datavenue has a catalog of data that includes population movement analytics using anonymized data from mobile networks. – enterpriseiotinsights
