OnePlus Makes Fun Of Pixel 4’s 90Hz Issue, Gets Cold Feet And Deletes Tweet

We love a bit of healthy competition between smartphone makers. Today, it was OnePlus that threw major shade at Google.

Slyly referencing the Pixel 4’s refresh rate problem, OnePlus put out this tweet:

It’s obvious OnePlus is trying to toot its own horn here. The company says that its 90Hz display phones are “fast and smooth anytime, anywhere.” You can see how the tweet references various brightness levels to show OnePlus phone maintain a consistent 90Hz refresh rate.

The Pixel 4 downgrades the 90Hz refresh rate to 60Hz when the brightness of the display falls below 75%. Google has said that it would fix the issues, but that didn’t stop OnePlus from taking its potshot.

However, what’s even more amusing is that OnePlus deleted the taunting tweet just minutes after posting it. Thankfully, we were able to grab a screenshot just in time.

We don’t know why OnePlus deleted its tweet, but we have a couple of theories.

First: OnePlus phones don’t actually run at 90Hz ‘anytime, anywhere.’”

The OnePlus 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro all sport 90Hz display refresh rates. When the Pixel 4 refresh rate issue came to light, we quickly tested if the OnePlus phones also drop refresh rate with changes in brightness. While our OnePlus 7T stuck to an even 90Hz in varying brightness, it’s not as if the refresh rate does not ever drop on OnePlus’ devices. Not all apps support 90Hz refresh rates and hence there are things you may be seeing in 60Hz on your OnePlus 7 Pro, 7T, or 7T Pro.

There is a way of forcing 90Hz for all apps. However, OnePlus representatives once told us that it doesn’t recommend it because of battery drainage issues.

Looks like OnePlus got cold feet and deleted that tweet mocking the Pixel 4 in order to keep the pandora’s box of comments about its own 90Hz mode shut tight. Or maybe the tweet was taken down as a friendly gesture towards Google, a company that literally creates the foundation for OnePlus’ Oxygen OS.―Android Authority
