NCC To Sanction Telecom Operators For Call Masking

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) says it will impose appropriate sanctions on any telecom operator that allows the illegal masking of international calls, reports the Guardian. Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, deputy director of the Consumer Affairs Bureau of NCC told the News Agency of Nigeria in Yenagoa that call masking was illegal and fraudulent.

Adedigba encouraged subscribers who receive international calls with local numbers showing on their phone screens to report this to the NCC by calling the toll-free number 622.  He said that the NCC was working to acquire appropriate equipment to nip call masking in the bud rather than rely on subscribers reports.

Turning to the subject of limited telephone coverage in remote areas, Adedigba said the NCC was developing local roaming among operators. Adedigba said that following feedback, the commission has urged operators to improve quality of service in Bayelsa. – Telecom Paper
