NCC Set To Improve Telecom Technology For Community In Imo

Residents of the oil producing local government area in Oguta Imo State, yesterday erupted in jubilation when the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) took the initiative to bring together telecom consumers in the various communities with network operators and the regulators so as to improve service delivery.

According to the director, Consumer Affairs Bureau of the Commission, Felicia Onwuegbuchulam , the exercise was meant to discuss, proffer solutions to consumers-related issues and to ensure that consumers have value for money through effective service delivery.

“The forum seeks to educate telecom consumers and other stakeholders on contemporary issues generating interests in the industry and also serves as a feedback mechanism to the NCC in making regulatory interventions for the benefit of the consumers and the service providers as well as the industry as a whole,” she said.

Onwuegbuchulam disclosed this at the 44th Edition of Consumer Town Hall Meeting (CTM) held in the area.

She noted that through empowerment and education, telecom consumers

were fortified with necessary tools to be protected from market exploitation to make rational and informed decision when making choices and services.

Besides serving as a proactive way of protecting consumers from making wrong choices, it also serves as a preventive measure that protects consumers from being exploited and against fraud.

To ensure that the telecom consumer is well informed and educated (PIE mandate), the NCC director said the commission had developed series of initiatives with the aim of empowering consumers with appropriate information and education that would  ensure that their rights, privileges and interests were adequately protected since information is said to be power.

Speaking,deputy director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, stressed that in realisation of the right of the telecom consumers, the NCC as a regulatory agency was poised to empower telecom consumers with adequate information and education through constant engagement at various levels across the country. – Leadership
