Move is on to extend internet connectivity between Coxbazar, Bangladesh to Agartala

Union Minister for Communications and Electronics & Information Technology and Railway Ashwini Vaishnaw said that move is on to extend the successful implementation of internet connectivity between Coxbazar international landing station (Bangladesh) to Agartala through BSNL.

The minister who is on a visit to Northeast India said, “Work is on for the provision of high-speed internet in entire Northeast. An out-of-the-box experiment was conducted for 10 GB internet connectivity from the Coxbazar international landing station (Bangladesh) to Agartala through BSNL. The experiment has been extremely successful and now we will be further extending this.”

He said that Indian Railway is working day in and day out to fulfill PM’s vision of connectivity in the complete Northeast,
Electrification of railway track has been completed up to Guwahati. Further work for electrification is also in progress.

Promoting the rich heritage of Northeast by introducing tourist circuit trains covering the entire Northeast and showcasing its beautiful culture to the entire world. Five Vistadome services have already been introduced towards the goal of promoting tourism in the Northeast.

He added that a thorough study is being done to introduce more passenger, Intercity, and Janshatabdi like trains in Northeastern states like Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram.

The minister added, ” PM’s vision is to provide digital telecom connectivity to every village in Northeast. We are working on it. Scientific survey and GIS mapping is on to identify locations for telecom connectivity in every village.”

He said that studies are being conducted to establish strategic lines through alternate routes in order to highlight the beauty of Northeast.Rs.7,000 crore has been allocated for ongoing railway projects in the Northeast this year. Newskoo
