Mobile net ban hits business transactions in Rajasthan

Mobile internet disruption has affected most businesses with representatives from various sectors of industry that it has not only caused losses of around Rs 400 crore, but impacted business operations.

Besides monetary transactions, companies faced disruptions in their operations as their planned activities suffered. Additionally, people took advantage of the ban to delay payments creating cascading impact.

Suresh Agarwal, president of the Federation of Rajasthan Trade and Industry (FORTI) said, “Movement of goods by carriers suffered as e-way bill generation was disrupted. While some vehicles could go, others were not as lucky as most of the formalities are done using mobile phones.”

He said Rajasthan has 4 lakh business establishments and most of them suffered in varying degrees.

Companies said their workers at sites could not send details, samples could not be approved, payments suffered, and orders could not be placed.

Digvijay Dhabriya, chairman of PHDCCI-Rajasthan, said, “Nobody was prepared for this kind of situation. If there is a Holi or Diwali, we plan for it. But nobody has provisioned for the Net ban which derailed the targets, deadlines and the scheduled activities. It caused delays, upsetting the whole business cycle.”

The situation is no better in the hospitality industry. People could not book hotel rooms, make payments digitally and had difficulties in reaching their planned destinations.

Kuldeep Singh Chandela, “The Net ban affected the visitors and the industry. People who were already travelling faced difficulties in reaching their next destinations and booking hotels or taxis.”

The restaurants that depended on food deliveries were the most hit as their businesses came to almost a complete halt. The owner of a restaurant said there was almost no orders during the day and it was not possible to reclaim the lost opportunities in the evening.r the same operational cost even though there was no business during the day. Even if we did some business in the night, on the whole we were losing money for all these days,” said the restaurant owner preferring anonymity. ToI
