MobiFone launches 5G network in Hue City

MobiFone deployed Ericsson’s Spectrum technology and undertook carrier aggregation between its existing 1800Mhz with 2600Mhz frequencies for the first time in the pilot of high-speed 5G services in Hue.

With the launch, locals can now experience the MobiFone 5G network in selected areas of the city with an average network speed of about 1Gbps.

On the occasion, MobiFone also introduced new services that maximise the potential of 5G such as cloud gaming, 8K video, VR, and extended reality.

The 5G services being offered as part of the trial are leveraging Ericsson Spectrum sharing and carrier aggregation technologies that are extending 5G coverage by around 30 per cent, increasing network capacity, and transforming the end-user experience.

Carrier aggregation is the foundation for deploying high-performing 4G and 5G networks. It provides the unique capability of aggregating several frequency bands for higher peak rates and increased cell coverage.

It is a game-changer for delivering increased network capacity and maximised spectral efficiency for 5G networks everywhere.

With fast connections, near-real-time ultra-low latency, and greater bandwidth, 5G will help drive society, transform industries, and enhance the user experience. 5G will create a world in which every individual has easy access to healthcare, financial institutions, online education, virtual workplaces, and even augmented experiences over the internet.

Besides Thua Thien-Hue, MobiFone plans to launch a 5G network in many other provinces and cities across the country in the near future. Along with previous 5G trials in Ho Chi Minh City, MobiFone has confirmed the readiness of infrastructure and technology for the official commercialisation of 5G in Vietnam.

Denis Brunetti, president and CEO of Ericsson Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos stated, “5G is a socioeconomic multiplier which will help unleash limitless possibilities for nations across the world, especially Vietnam. As an enterprising and innovative nation with a technologically inclined population, both consumers and businesses will benefit significantly through the power of 5G.”

Brunetti added, “We are proud to be Mobifone’s strategic partner over the past 30 years, collaborating with Mobifone and the broader ICT industry to build the innovation platform and foundation for Industry 4.0, which is expected to accelerate the digital transformation of all industries across Vietnam, especially in manufacturing, energy, and logistics. 5G promises to create the next wave of sustained and inclusive socioeconomic development in Vietnam, fueled by science, technology, and innovation, enabled by 5G as the critical national digital infrastructure.” Vietnam Investment Review
