Mission Directorate for National Broadband Mission

The Department of Telecommunications has set up a full time Mission Directorate for effective and time bound implementation of various deliverables and outcomes of the Mission and to have a proper monitoring and review of progress, a full-time/permanent established with the following structure:

i. 1 Mission Director – Sr. DDG/DDG level Officer
ii. 3 Deputy Mission Directors (DMDs) of Director level:-
    a. DMD (Wireline BB) – For wireline broad connectivity.
    b. DMD (Mobile BB & Telephony) – For mobile broadband and telephony.
    c. DMD (Mapping) – For RoW and & Tower/OFC mapping.
iii. 3 ADG/ADET level officers to assist 3 DMDs (one officer to each).
iv. Supporting staff (MTS/others) on contractual basis.

3. The NBM Directorate will function under overall supervision of DG (Telecom).

The directorate will collectively monitor and assessment progress ranges of wired and cellular broadband penetration ranges. They can even oversee deliverables round problem of proper of means (RoW) clearances and mapping of optical fibre cable (OFC) networks. Additional officers and a few contractual employees will assist the NBM directorate’s high deck.
The directorate will create a central dashboard on the telecom division’s portal, which can provide month-to-month updates on precise progress ranges round assembly nationwide broadband enlargement objectives, together with organising of digital communications infrastructure and offering inexpensive common broadband providers throughout India.
Under the National Broadband Mission, the DoT is reportedly concentrating on a mixture of 100% broadband connectivity within the villages, 55% fiberisation of cellular towers, common broadband speeds of 25 mbps and 30 lakh kms of optic fibre rollouts by December 2022. By December 2024, it’s 70% fiberisation of towers, common broadband speeds of 50 Mbps and 50 lakh kms of optic fibre rollouts at a pan-India degree.
