MeitY invites proposals to estimate the size of digital economy

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Wednesday invited proposals to undertake the task of estimating the size of India’s economy. The concerned agency will also have to prepare the ranking and share of different states in this regard.

An interested agency may also work on creating a framework for measuring the digital economy. He will have to estimate the size of the digital economy of the states as well as ranking the states according to the size of the digital economy.

As reported earlier, the government plans to showcase the success of India’s digital economy during the G-20 summit, to be held here in December. India can also provide conditional assistance to other countries to build digital economy and payment infrastructure.

India released the report in 2019 regarding the country’s trillion dollar digital opportunity. According to the report, digital transformation will lead to change in areas where services are not available, or areas with less services. This will create an economic value of 1 trillion dollars by 2025 and create 6 to 65 million jobs. It said that out of $1 trillion economic value, around $390 to $500 billion would come from digital applications in key economic and social sectors such as agriculture, health and education.

The ministry has said in the application proposal that 30 digital themes have been identified in the study, ranging from IT infra, software efficiencies, health education to next generation financial services. India Postsen
