MediaTek Helio M70 5G Baseband Chipset Available Now, May Ship In H2 2019

MediaTek has announced the MediaTek Helio M70 5G baseband chipset in China, which was first announced in Taiwan at Computex. It’s the company’s first chip that supports 5G and built on the 7nm process. The chip will start shipping in 2019 and face a direct competition with the recently announced Snapdragon 855. This means we are going to see this chipset employed inside the 5G compatible phones in the coming year.

The full details of the MediaTek M70 haven’t been shared at the time of its announcement at the Computex but now a few more technical details are out. The only details that were made public included the support for 5G NR and the fact that it meets the latest 3GPP Release 15 standard specification. Also, it has a transfer rate of 5Gbps and has an early collaboration with Nokia, NTT Docomo, CMCC, Huawei, and more.

Now the official release of the chipset reveals the support for 2G/3G/4G/5G-enabled connectivity since it’s a multimode chipset. It also supports the standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures, the sub-6GHz frequency band, high power user equipment (HPUE), and other key 5G technologies.

The Helio M70 baseband chipset is available now and is expected to ship in the second half of 2019. – Mobile Scout
